Here are 6 phones that failed miserably and thought us a lesson that what not to do.
.Blackberry Storm: Once Blackberry used to be a status symbol, just like an iPhone today. In the early 2010s it had a huge dominance over the smartphone market. But in 2008, when touch-screen phones were starting to trend, Blackberry also jumped into it and released the BlackBerry Storm. It was the first phone to come without a physical keyboard. But it didn't appeal to the general public due to some issues. The so called touch screen of the phone was kind of a gimmick, it was not a touch screen to begin with but worked with a button via SurePress. In English the user has to press the screen to operate the phone. It also had some major O.S and wifi problems, thus this phone failed.
.Galaxy Note 7: In 2016 Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the successor of the previous Note 5. This is probably the most well known smartphone fails of all time as some non-technical people might know about this infamous phone. Although the phone was really good with a good 5.7 inch 1440p super AMOLED display and a great camera at the time. But the battery had some big design flaws and this caused the electrons presented in the battery to bend. This resulted in thermal runaway and short circuits causing the phone to blast at some points. This soon became headlines and Samsung had to recall most of the phones and discontinue the model.
.iPhone 6: Today Apple promises you with a premium user expy by removing the charger and selling it separately for more price. But this wasn't always the case. The iPhone 6 was the eighth generation of iPhone and launched on September 19,2014. Succeeding the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s. The phone had some major design issues especially near the power button, the phone was too thin and the aluminium chassis just wasn't strong enough. This resulted in the phone having bending issues. People started complaining that their phones are bending with little to no pressure. Apple faced a huge backlash for this but soon was able to come back and dominate the market with the iPhone 7 launch.
.Freedom 251: Marketed as the world's cheapest smartphone, this phone was offered for sale in India at an eye watering price of ₹251($3.03 as of 2022). But The India Cellular Association (ICA) doubted the phone and stated that it will be impossible to get profit through a smartphone sold under ₹3,500($44.4). This is a prime example of "if something is too good to be true then it properly isn't." The phone looked like a cheap Chinese phone with the branding of Ringing Bells and poorly copied bids from Apple's software. Many customers even reported that they didn't receive a confirmation email after pre-booking the phone.
.Fire Phone: Amazon is a huge company but it doesn't mean that everything they make will be too tier. The Amazon Fire Phone is a perfect example of that. Developed by Amazon and manufactured by Foxconn, this phone was Amazon's first attempt to dominate the smartphone market after the successful Kindle Fire. Amazon promised huge things with this phone that would be unmatched by any company. Well it didn't fail miserably like the other phones in this list but it received mixed reviews. Some praised it for the Dynamic Perspective, Firefly, the headphones but many criticized it for poor hardware, specifications, Fire O.S.
.Samsung Galaxy Fold: 10 years ago the concept of folding phones felt like straight out of some sci-fi movie. But in 2019 it became real after Samsung launched their first folding phone, The Samsung Galaxy Fold. The phone looked spectacular with its folding display and Samsung's beautiful design. But when Samsung sent the review units to reviewers, most of them removed the protective layer of the screen assuming it was a screen protector. This damaged the display and reviewers were unable to operate the phone. But for the ones whose display didn't die, found some major issues with the folding mechanism. The phone also had the specifications of the previous generation due to be a concept-is phone.
