  • Sometimes owls swallow their prey entirely. Well, they don't do this with the bigger animals but the smaller animals like small mice, baby snakes are swollen whole. 

  • Excluding giant sea creatures like blue whales and giant squid, ostriches have the largest eyes of any land animal. Their eyes are 2 inches in diameter which is bigger than their brain. 

  • Birds are the closest living animal along with crocodiles which are believed to be directly descended from dinosaurs. 

  • Due to the lack of a stable delivering service, in ancient Greece pigeons were used to deliver the results of the Olympic games. 

  • There are more than 18,000 bird species in the world and the number of total birds ranges from 50 billion to 430 billion. 

  • Ravens are great at mimicking human noises. Not only human sounds but they can also mimic the sounds of other things like horns and fire alarms. They can even teach other Ravens. 

  • The hummingbird is the smallest bird on earth; they are also the lightest. The average weight of a hummingbird is around 4 grams. But the smallest bee hummingbird is 1.6 grams which is less than the weight of a penny.

  • Although parrots can learn upto 50 words, Einstein, a African grey parrot at the Knoxville zoo in Tennessee, can  say upto 200 world's. 

  • When a group of duck sleeps, there is usually a duck who guards. The fuck closes one eye and keeps the other open, it also keeps one half of the brain awake. 

  • Cardinals cover themselves with living or dead ants well, scientists haven't found any solid reason behind this but some believe the formic acid left by the ants help get rid of live or parasites.
