The charm of classic anime

What makes an anime to be considered as a classic anime, might vary from person to person. But for most it comes down to two points:

Passing the course of time.

The impact it had on the industry.

The hardest test that every anime or any movie, animation, game has to overcome is time.

"And every fair from fair sometime declines

By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed."

                               William Shakespeare

Time is always changing so is people's taste in anime, the animation style. Most of the anime tend to be forgotten after it reaches the highest mark. This is a normal thing, nothing can be relevant for eternity, everything has to decline at some point in the future. But even though the classic shows have lost their peak in popularity, they are so unique that new fans watch them by recommendation and older fans watch them over and over again just to get that experience. An experience that they simply cannot get from newer anime.

Time is the worst enemy of any anime or form of entertainment in general. Older shows discovered a new style of presenting their work which was never been used before, and newer shows uses that style and sometimes improve that style in their shows so much that the original show becomes irrelevant.

Some classic anime shaped their genres with their unique storytelling but have become irrelevant today because of the amount of usage of that style in newer shows.

No matter how good an anime or a show is, it is not gonna get a classic title as long as it's not appealing to the border audience. How the producers promote the show to the global audience and will it be even appealing to the foreign audience, things like this play a major role in how a show can get world wide recognition. Most of the older shows from the 1900s are shounen, magical girl, adventure and mecha. Let's take Evangelion for instance, it literally defines the mecha genre and other classes like Naruto,Sailor moon,One piece represents their genres and era.

This is the part that most modern anime stragglers with due to the sheer amount of seasonal anime we get every season. Frankly speaking we are spoiled by the quantity of anime shows these days. It's to get a track of each and every anime coming out nowadays. Every other day there is a new anime trailer and by the time you finish an anime there will be 3 more newly released anime. There is simply so much anime every season it's unbelievably hard for an anime to stand out of the crowd.

Yeah, anime like Spy x Family, Call of the Night stand out and can get as popular as some classics for a short period of time but soon they lose a big chunk of their popularity and relevance. There is so much to choose from that people don't watch the same show again, but watch a new show which is trending. Someone can also say in terms of older shows, there were not a lot to choose from like now. Moreover the creators didn't face a lot of competition in the global market so they only focused on making one good anime rather than jam packing a season with 10 different shows. Seasonal anime dominates the market so much that even the most well received shows find it hard to appeal to the audience in their sequels.

All things considered one thing is for sure that no matter how much time has passed true fans will always come back to the classics. Although they might be a little bit pixelated and the animation will be old and not as beautiful as most anime of that time, the thing that will never get old is the unique experience those shows will provide the viewers. An experience that is like a fine wine which gets more and more prosperous by time. You can steal the way of storytelling, the art style, animation style and even the music but one thing that can't be stolen is the originality and the charm of a classic anime.
